Career Break

Image
I have been on a career break since January 2023. That means I am neither in the academe nor in the industry. But I am so grateful to be able to afford  my current lifestyle even without work.  I am currently a "pracademic-at-large," if there is such a concept. Do NOT mistake my status as laziness. I am indulging my time in reskilling and upskilling my knowledge and skillset as a communication practitioner and academic. The global communication landscape is fast transforming to a more digital nature. As a professional and academic, I have to adapt to these changes. I am currently immersing myself in seminars and trainings on ICT and expanding my vocabulary to better describe my experiences in these times.   I am getting ready to conquer the new opportunities that are coming my way.

Solo Travels are Empowering

Image
SOME adore my guts, but most people find it pitiful that I travel ALONE in the country or abroad. Ask me to share a personal story and I would excitedly talk about my solo travels to Benguet and Indonesia (Jakarta & Yogyakarta) and my plans to explore Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and the rest of the Southeast Asia alone. Getting lost in Malioboro, one of the busiest streets in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. An unforgettable and thrilling experience. But despite my obvious excitement, many would still give me sad looks and try to "console" me for having to travel alone... as if I did something pitiful. Honestly, I feel annoyed with this kind of reaction though I am sure they mean well. So I just tell them that solo travel is NOT for the weak. I hope people realize how empowering it is to be able to take care of yourself as you get out of your comfort zone and to afford exploring new places and culture. Solo travels are blessings that I am truly grateful for.

I am More than a Gemini

Image
I have recently learned about Tropical Astrology, Sidereal Astrology, and my birth charts based on these astrological systems.  Tropical Astrology is based on the Earth's seasons and is popular in Western culture. So, it is also called "Western Astrology." In the Philippines where American influence is strong, popular culture is bombarded with daily horoscopes that promote the tropical sun sign. Meantime, Sidereal Astrology is based on the fixed stars and is common in countries where Hinduism is practiced, like India. Thus, it is also called "Vedic Astrology." I have also just learned that we are more than just one sign -- our sun signs are just one of the many planets (yes, the sun is a planet, astrological-wise) and astrological elements in our birth charts.  My Tropical Chart (with Placidus House System):   Sun in Gemini 26°,  Ascendant in Scorpio 27°, Moon in Libra  3°, Mercury in Gemini  5°, Venus in Leo 11°, Mars in Gemini 22°, Jupiter in Sagittarius  3°,

I am Romblomanon

Image
I have been to many places, but I will always be Romblomanon. I was born and educated in Manila, raised in Makati, and have been living in Bacoor for almost two decades, but  my roots are in Romblon . Both of my parents are from the province of Romblon, and so as their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. My mom is from Calatrava, Romblon, and belongs to the clans of Espelimbergo, Fruelda, Fetalino, Falqueza, and Moscoso. My dad is from Romblon, Romblon, and belongs to the clans of Familara, Fallesgon, Fetalino, Fabregas, Fondevilla, and Malayo. Our family also has roots in other towns of Romblon, including Simara (the Frueldas and the Fondevillas), Odiongan (the Familaras and the Fallesgons), and Romblon (the Moscosos and the Malayos).
